Here is the problem.
Garage door chain loose when closed.
So i have the sears craftsman 1 2hp garage door opener.
Step 2 turning off the power.
This would not allow the door to close properly.
As soon as the garage door closed it would automatically open.
A few weeks ago the chain was hanging loose about 2 inches below the rail and was rubbing on the rail.
Once you are clear that the only problem is a slightly loose chain then you can begin fixing the problem.
Over time though this slack can increase or the gear and sprocket assembly can wear and the chain may pop off the sprockets.
It s an old model that was installed 15 years ago.
Tightening up the slack on your garage door will allow it to run more efficiently and will prevent loud noises that disrupt your home.
Make sure that the garage door is closed and that you have another way of getting out of the garage.
Chain driven garage door openers should have some slack in the chain for optimal performance.

A loose garage door chain has less power to open and close the garage door and it can often create a loud and annoying sound as the slack hits the door.
You can put the chain back on your automatic garage door opener using a simple adjustment mechanism.
